A very misleading statement?

A very misleading statement?

In response to written question from Cllr Mason (Question one on 28th October 2013) the Cabinet Member for Housing in the written response puts the number of voids at the end of September 2013 at 115

Northampton Defend Council Housing would point out that 225 would be our understanding of the number of voids?

A misleading statement?

In response to written question from Cllr Mason (Question one on 28th October 2013) the Cabinet Member for Housing in the written response puts the number of voids at the end of September 2013 at 115

I (Norman Adams) find the number of 115 very questionable?

And intend to question the Cabinet Member for Housing (Cllr. Mary Markham) over the response given and now published by the council as a public document.

Northampton Defend Council Housing (NDCH) holds records of numbers via[i] Freedom of Information Responses and they show that since April 2013 none have been below 206 and at the beginning of September 2013 (7th) 215 were void by the start of October 2013 (7th) we find that the number void as being 225

Do we have the opposition just accepting what they are told?

We NDCH are concerned that a member of the public has to flag up this issue and feel that the opposition both Labour and the Liberal Democrats seem to be failing to hold the Conservative administration to account on housing issues. This could have a bearing on why the Tenants’ Panel feel that our housing service would be better run at arms length?

Northampton Defend Council Housing reply to question asked by Cllr Mason would be:

Currently the number of voids in the housing stock (7th October 2013) is 225

This compares with 140 voids 12 months ago (7th October 2012) an increase of 85 on last year

[ii] Question for Full Council Monday 28th October 2013

Question 1

Question to Councillor Mary Markham from Councillor Lee Mason

What currently is the number of voids in the housing stock and how does this compare with 12 months ago?

Response

The number of voids at the end of September 2013 was 115. The overall trend in voids performance this year up to August was an increase in the number of properties let each month but September spiked with a reduction in lets and an increase in routine voids compared with the same time last year.

Cllr Mary Markham

Cabinet Member for Housing

[i] Northampton Defend Council Housing would bring your attention to the FACT that the numbers relate to totals on a given date, in this case the 7th day of the Month

[ii] The question and response on the 28th October and published on the Council website
