Tens of thousands of pounds just to attend a few meetings.
Question to Councillor Markham from Norman Adams
In your report tonight you make mention of ‘our partner housing association Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association’ (BPHA).
Question: Do you know that BPHA has smashed National Housing Federation pay guidelines by bumping up wages on its board by 40 per cent? And would you agree with the comment from Michael Gelling, chair of the Tenants’ and Residents’ Organisations of England, that paying ‘fantastic rewards’ to boards while tenants hit by welfare reforms are struggling to pay their rent is ‘immoral’?
This housing association has chosen to start paying board members tens of thousands of pounds just to attend a few meetings.
According to Inside Housing, the Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association will now pay board members an annual fee of £26,500 a year, with possibly twice that likely to line the grubby pockets of the Chairperson.
Others and I really do question the partners that our council see fit to work with
