The Chartered Institute of Housing has warned that the industry could ‘grind to a halt’ unless the government commits to a long-term rent-setting policy.
In a report compiled alongside housing association London & Quadrant, the CIH has outlined potential options for beyond 2015, when the current rent regime is due to end.
The report, We need to talk about rents, outlines potential objectives and options for a future long-term rent policy for social and affordable homes. However, it does not prescribe a solution but instead wants to ‘encourage debate’ in the sector,
The current regime sees rents increase by the retail price index plus 0.5 per cent every year.
